THE Irish language is declining, as the last census confirmed.

Irish is a waste of time as a school subject

Yet it is a compulsory school subject. After working at it through primary and secondary school, it will have been pointless. It has no benefits for me. Any other subject would be of more use.

Parents pour money into sending children to grinds and summer courses. For what? To give them the thrill that they are living our heritage? Why force us to learn a subject that is dying?
