Genius and literacy

WILLIAM EVERS states (Irish Examiner letters, August 26) that Thomas Edison was “illiterate”. This is completely incorrect.

Genius and literacy

Thomas Alva Edison (1847-1931) the American inventor of the telephone, microphone, phonograph, electric light bulb, among many other things was dyslexic.

Dyslexic people like Edison are sometimes associated with low intelligence because of poor spelling and grammar. Is it not time that all children are assessed for specific learning difficulty (dyslexia) lest a Thomas Edison be overlooked. As an aside, Edison also invented the electric chair.
