Irish Examiner View: A Boris blunder

There is something gleefully reassuring about learning that even the brightest, best, and most powerful individuals can do the most stupid things imaginable.

British prime minister, Boris Johnson, is a case in point. Johnson, who tested positive for COVID-19, conducted his first-ever digital cabinet meeting using the remote-conferencing app Zoom and shared a screenshot of it on Twitter.

But along with it, he also revealed the Zoom ID for the cabinet meeting, which could have allowed any tech-savvy hacker to join the cabinet as an uninvited guest.

Not quite in the same league is the photograph released by Leo Varadkar, showing him at his desk, complete with a Mr Taoiseach mug, in the style of the Mr Men cartoon series.

Best of all is the Australian astrophysicist Dr Daniel Reardon, who ended up in hospital after inserting magnets in his nostrils, while building a necklace that warns you when you touch your face.

The scientist, who studies pulsars and gravitational waves, was trying to liven up the boredom of self-isolation.

His experience is a warning to all DIY enthusiasts.
