Fine Gael and Labour have drawn the wrath of the country’s farmers, just two weeks out from the general election, who believe the coalition parties abandoned rural Ireland.

In a strong intervention into the campaign, John Comer, president of farm lobby group ICMSA, lashed out at the government parties at the neglect of farmers and rural Ireland.

“This is a republic and people living in Roscommon, Kerry or any other county are citizens in the same way as those living in Mount Merrion or Ranelagh — and with the same rights,” Mr Comer said.
