A QUARTER of a century ago I visited Kerry’s glorious Skellig Michael. Then, it was wonderfully un-sanitised and dramatically remote from the clutches of a modern, cotton-wool society.

Having hopped ashore the magnificent rock from a tiny boat after a spectacular waved-distressed crossing, it was immediately possible to wander as I fancied.
