RENTING someone else’s home is amazingly revealing of the owners. Most of them clear out their medicine cabinets but few of them remove their books.

Billeted in an apartment in Manhattan when making a pilot for a TV series, I found several books by two authors and only those two authors. One batch of books was by Danielle Steele. The other stack had been written by one William F Buckley Jr.
