The camera pans onto Micheál Martin. He approaches the knot of hacks at the sideline in the training ground. He is togged out in a tracksuit and carrying a drink of freshly squeezed kiwi juice in a recycled glass bottle.

The Gaffer Martin wears a woolly hat, slung low over the forehead, which accentuates the pained look on his face. The hacks gather round except it’s not the usual collection of sports lads in oversized anoraks and uneven facial hair. This is the politics crew, well scrubbed up in jackets and ties.
