It’s been 30 years since Roddy Doyle’s TV series Family provided a raw depiction of domestic violence, and in doing so sparked backlash and hostility.
“I got more than one letter claiming it didn’t happen in Ireland, and if I wanted to do it I should have set it in England,” the Booker Prize winner this week remembered.
