A jury has found 20-year-old Alex Deady guilty of the murder of postman Barry Daly in Doneraile, Co Cork.

Deady, of Glenview, Convent Road, Doneraile, Co Cork, was convicted of the murder of 44-year-old Barry Daly at Rockview Terrace, Doneraile, on October 12, 2025.

The verdict came after the jury deliberated for a total of 11 hours and 51 minutes over four days.

The jury was asked whether the verdict was supported by at least 10 jurors, and it confirmed that it was. The court was not told whether the verdict was 10-1 or unanimous.

There was no visible reaction from Deady when the verdict was delivered.

The jury has been hearing the case at the Central Criminal Court sitting in Cork since it was sworn in on June 3, with the trial opening on June 4.

Deliberations continue

However, the jury's work is not yet complete. The 11-member jury, comprising six women and five men, will return to the Central Criminal Court at Anglesea Street on Monday at 11am to resume deliberations in relation to the second accused, a 17-year-old who cannot be identified because he is a minor.

The teenager also faces a charge of murdering Barry Daly at Rockview Terrace, Doneraile, on October 12, 2025.

Like Deady, he pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter at the outset of the trial.

The jury no longer has to consider the case against a third accused. On June 24, the 16-year-old defendant entered a plea of not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter, which was accepted by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
