Fergus Finlay: Trump's team are very afraid — things are about to get vicious

US Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump's team don’t know if she can win the election. But she has huge momentum now, and they’re terrified of her.

IF I HAD written down everything I said last week, I’d have to admit to you today that I got one detail wrong. Early in July, while still absorbed in the British general election and having stayed up half the night to watch that cataclysmic US debate, I wrote here that in his heart of hearts Joe Biden knew what the right thing to do was, and I had total faith he’d do it.

On July 16, after more dramatic moments I also wrote about here — I compared them to scenes from The Manchurian Candidate — Trump emerged from his convention as virtually unbeatable. He certainly couldn’t be beaten by an ageing president. I wrote then that Joe Biden had a week left to do the right thing.
