Cut their cover - Learner drivers’ penalty points

FIGURES that show that each day for the last two years six learner drivers incurred penalty points because they drove without being accompanied by a qualified driver indicate that a considerable number of people have little or no regard for legislation designed to make our roads safer for everyone.
Cut their cover - Learner drivers’ penalty points

Tragically, road death statistics show that inexperience and the excessive speed sometimes encouraged by overconfidence are significant factors in too many tragedies. Far too many learner drivers become involved in crashes and far too many learner drivers involve innocent road users in needless tragedy.

These figures show that we do not take the legislation seriously and therefore undermine all road safety measures. They hardly champion a culture that is serious about road safety. There may, however, be a simple solution. Introduce legislation that would invalidate all insurance for unqualified drivers found driving alone. After all, how many other illegal practices enjoy insurance cover?
