Continue cutting - Roaming charges
It has taken several years for the European Commission to finally bring the big mobile providers to heel and force through cuts to the cost of making cross-border calls and using data in another EU state.
Over that time, the owners of mobile companies have earned huge profits through excessive charges, making a mockery of the so-called single market.
Travellers from the Republic to the North — and vice versa — were also subject to these huge costs.
Holidaymakers in particular should be aware, however, that they will still face big charges in popular destinations such as Turkey and other countries outside the EU.
Now that the Commission has succeeded within the union, it should use its muscle to cut costs for travellers to non EU countries in Europe and, perhaps, beyond.
