NATO should work to improve Kurdish rights

There is surely no need for the tragic conflict between the Turkish government and the Kurdish people of Turkey and elsewhere.

NATO should work to improve Kurdish rights

Turkey will not allow a Kurdish breakaway state. The majority of the Turkish Kurdish people, as I understand it, are not seeking this but are demanding civil and human rights. These are entirely compatible aims.

Turkey’s great NATO allies, the US and UK, could do far more more to reassure Turkey on the one hand, but pressure it on the other, to end human rights abuses which fuel the war the way Bloody Sunday did in Northern Ireland.
