Joan Burton is not getting a fair crack of the whip

Last week I listened to Sean O’Rourke on his morning programme interviewing Tánaiste Joan Burton and was appalled at how he treated her.

He did not give her the courtesy of listening to her answers and kept chattering away and drowning out what she was trying to say. He seemed in the end to lose his cool, while the Tánaiste held hers.

I felt he was extremely ungracious and what I noticed most was a dismissiveness towards her.

I think she deserved to get the same reception as I have seen him give to other party leaders. I have never been a member of any political party and this is not meant to be any kind of political statement.

I am, however, looking for fairness for everyone and, I felt very strongly that she did not receive it.

In the circumstances, Joan Burton deserves praise for acquitting herself so well.
