Kenny and Whelan’s stances are indefensible

Enda Kenny may have the full confidence of Cabinet but does he have the confidence of the rest of us? I doubt it. Any halfway logical person would accept that ex-Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan was being told to fall on his sword.

A call to a person’s private dwelling at 11pm, without any forewarning or opportunity to respond, could hardly be interpreted, in the circumstances, in any other manner, particularly, when the missive, amongst other messages, stated that Mr Kenny might not be able to express confidence in the commissioner if requested so to do by Government.

Mr Kenny is a politician for a long time and while he may not be the brightest button in the box, at least not in my opinion, he is not naive.

Carry on with your immensely silly denials Mr Kenny, no one believes you.

Turning to the Attorney General, Marie Whelan, I, rejoiced at our Chief Justice, Attorney General, Minister for Justice and DPP all being women, but when a judge says to a lawyer of any ilk, that it would have been “reasonable and prudent” for her to have done something she did not do, that is judge speak for — you made a grievous error and you should consider your position.

The Fennelly Commission report does not reflect well on the Attorney General. She put political expediency before law and that is certainly not excusable to her position as Attorney General. The AG is behaving more like a politician than a law officer.
