This is another Holocaust

It’s embarrassing to read of WW2 and the Holocaust and realise that Ireland was found severely wanting in taking in Jewish refugees.

This is another Holocaust

Communication of events in Europe in the 1940s was hampered by censorship and our place at the periphery of it all, but it’s an unpalatable fact that official Ireland’s excuses were cringeworthy, at best, and xenophobic and ignorant, at worst.

A Holocaust of a different type is now taking place in the Middle East, and, thanks to news media, no-one can plead ignorance.

Ireland should ‘man up’ and take in displaced Syrians in the same proportion as Germany. These people aren’t con artists. We are all aware of the brutality they are fleeing.
