Crisis deepens - Calais chaos
The French authorities are struggling to cope while hundreds of truck drivers — many of them Irish — face threats not just to their livelihoods but to their very lives.
It is only a matter of time before an Irish lorry driver is attacked by migrants, many of whom are armed with knives and other implements.
Hundreds of migrants took advantage of a strike by ferry workers to target UK bound lorries stuck at the entrances to the port and the Eurotunnel.
Both the British and the French appear to be working together to get things under control, but there is no sign of any active interest in the situation being taken by the Irish Government. Considering we send troops on peacekeeping missions and naval personnel on rescue missions, perhaps it is time we also consider the wellbeing of our own citizens before one of them is seriously injured or killed.
