Government should go after absent fathers

Some 12,000 families will be affected by reforms to the one-parent family payment.

Government should go after absent fathers

It must be asked: if the lone parent must go back to work who will meet the cost of child-minding?

It is the poor parent with few qualifications who will suffer.

Every turn you take in life today, you are reminded of equality of rights but where is such, when it comes to the one parent family?

The lone parent, in the majority women, are left holding the baby while the other half is left off scot free.

I refer to boyfriends who are jointly responsible for pregnancies and yet are not to be seen when the baby arrives. You could apply the adage: “The cock does all the crowing but the hen must deliver the goods.”

With all this talk about saving on the one parent payment – why not make legislation demanding maintenance from men? There is no equality of rights for the one-parent family.
