One-state solution runs counter to EU position

Daniel Teegan’s claim that justice for the Palestinian people can only be achieved by the ending of Israel as a Jewish nation is not merely without empirical foundation. It also, despite his insistence, meets the EU’s definition of anti-Semitism (Irish Examiner, Letters, 4 July).

One-state solution runs counter to EU position

This states that any expressions of hatred/contempt that “target the state of Israel, conceived as a Jewish collective” are anti-Semitic. The EU definition leaves no room for ambiguity. Any individual or organisation that denies “the Jewish people their right to self-determination, eg, by claiming the existence of a State of Israel is a racist endeavour”, meets that definition.

Mr Teegan’s “sensible” proposal denies a just two-state solution, which is supported by most Israelis, and challenges the EU position of a “viable... Palestinian state living side-by-side in peace and security with Israel”.
