16-year-olds are not too "hormonal" to vote

I am writing on behalf of my fifth-year English class, the majority of whom are 16 years of age.

16-year-olds are not too "hormonal" to vote

Their reaction to the comments by the TD, Peter Matthews, on reducing the voting age, varied from “disgusted” to “outraged”.

Anyone can be “hormonal”, depending on age or circumstance in life: eg, pregnant women.

They feel they are being stereotyped and this is wrong.

There would be more understanding of young people if they had a say in who represents them.

They study CSPE, Life skills and Enterprise, as well as current affairs, including debating.

This gives them a mature knowledge of national affairs and they would appreciate the opportunity to use this and engage in the democratic process.
