Pontiff should not have entered slapping debate

A slap on the back of the child’s legs is corporal punishment, and will, without doubt, leave it’s violent mark on the child.

A slap on the child’s bottom is corporal punishment, and will, without doubt, leave it’s violent mark on the child.

A slap on the back of the child’s head is corporal punishment, and will, without doubt, leave it’s violent mark on the child.

A slap on the child’s face is corporal punishment, and will, without doubt, leave it’s violent mark on the child.

A slap on any part of the child’s body is corporal punishment, and will, without doubt, leave it’s violent mark on the child.

Believe me, and I speak from experience, you will humiliate a child, no matter what part of the body you slap.

Pope Francis was very unwise to enter this particular debate. I congratulate Mary McAleese on her eloquent and measured letter on this subject. Any kind of corporal punishment of children should be banned. End of story.
