Residents banish water- meter men from estate
I was notified, while in work, that they had arrived and rushed home to witness, and hear, how they were dealt with by residents, who were helped by a group called Clondalkin Meter Watch — a force to be reckoned-with.
The Irish Water sub-contractors were driven out of the estate by the crowds, mainly women but also a man in his 70s.
The next day they again arrived and again they were driven out.
Irish Water did not notify the residents of their plans, as they should have done under the law.
That day, some residents organised a meeting. We discussed what we could do and we agreed that in the evening we would send leaflets to the 300-odd homes to advise residents that we were opposed to what was going on and why.
The people stood up to this dreaded company and I have never been as proud to be from Clondalkin.
Only one person came up to me to say they were in favour of water meters being installed.
