Human touch - Santa letter

Sometimes, no matter what structures and safeguards a business or organisation puts in place, things will go wrong.

Human touch - Santa letter

An Post faced such a dilemma at Christmas when a letter to Santa Claus was returned to its sender marked ‘insufficient address’.

An Post apologised for the mistake, saying it was “very upset” to learn of the case and that “it simply should not have happened”. Not half as upset as the little Dublin girl involved and her father, though.

A far better response was made by one of its customer service agents when he learned that another letter had been similarly sent back. The agent - whose name is revealed only as ‘Fintan’ - contacted the child involved and told him to send the letter to him at An Post and that he would personally deliver it to Santa - which he did.

In these days when electronics seems to rule our lives, there is nothing like the human touch.

Well done, Fintan. Let us hope your bosses at An Post take note of what you did and recognise your value.
