When homeless man Jonathan Corrie died in a doorway in freezing conditions last month, close to the entrance of Dáil Éireann in Dublin, it provoked days of outrage and soul-searching about homelessness and the consequences of homelessness.

The grim discovery forced the Government to take immediate action to confront the situation and prevent even more people being forced to live on the streets.

Yesterday the body of a homeless Polish man was found on a street in the Temple Bar area of Dublin’s south inner city and though this death has been, to a degree at least, overshadowed by events in France, it is a profound reminder that this a is a complex problem that requires an urgent and persistent response.
