I am paying for the State

So the State has been found wanting again, as per the European Court of Human Rights.

Who is ‘the State’? The State is me, you and every citizen in this country.

It is not some ivory tower in Dublin occupied by mini gods, sitting around a table with bottomless pockets of money. As a retired nurse, a PAYE worker with a full service, of 40 years, I am on a modest pension.

How much of my working life has gone in tax to pay for Mahon, Moriarty and beef tribunals, to pay for army deafness, Magdalen laundries, hepatitis C, Letterfrack and other orphanages, to pay for banks, bankers and failed businessmen, etc?

A sizeable sum of my contributions to my Church has paid for clerical child-sex abuse. Now another compensation ‘runaway train’ is coming straight for us.

This vicarious liability is a joke. I have done no wrong to anybody, so why must I be the victim of the action or inaction of others?
