Two gardaí, who were brave enough to expose how the points system for errant drivers had been undermined by inappropriate interventions, have been disciplined in an extraordinary way. It is important to remember that the objective of the points system is to make our roads safer for everyone, not just those who use influence to avoid penalties.

Though it is wearying to point it out again, our Government promised legislation to protect whistleblowers. But then that was before they were in power and had to worry about brave people holding them to account.
