Penny Dinners charity - Deserving of our support

Despite these balmy autumnal days, the ferocity of winter is never far away. This stark reality makes the plight of people who depend on the Cork Penny Dinners all the more poignant.

Founded by the Quakers in Famine times, the charity has never been busier. It has seen a 55% rise in demand for its services compared to last year. Its tireless volunteers are feeding 1,400 people every week.

This harrowing situation is a sign of the times, a hangover from the Government’s programme of austerity triggered by the bank bailout debacle which has left people carrying an unbearable burden.
