Park this whinging about the Maze

I’m sick of the whinging from both sides about what should happen to the site of the Maze Prison.

The best solution, for everyone, is that it should be razed and replaced by a large park, with beautiful lawns and flower beds, with a pond where children can feed the ducks, and playgrounds, a pavilion and a nice café.

The only people who think the Maze’s former prisoners acted with the support of the ‘community’ are themselves and their apologists.

I never gave permission for anyone to be murdered for the sake of a united Ireland, nor for the sake of preserving the union, and it offends me to be told that I did. I do not care one jot about the deaths of terrorists from either side.

We wouldn’t take seriously any call to preserve the cells of a murderer in a conventional prison, so it’s about time we stopped pandering to the myth of freedom fighters.

All the wasted energy that goes into nonsense like this should be directed to removing so-called ‘peace walls’ and into integrating communities by sharing education and social facilities.

So I’m glad someone like Peter Robinson finally had the sense to call a stop to this nonsense.
