Shocked at hospital clean-up

Listening to radio and reading newspapers on the events at Letterkenny Hospital made one certainly find sympathy for the patients in particular.

However, I found it difficult to comprehend how a recently-built establishment could be subject to such devastation. It is bewildering, even if it only affected the older section of the development.

Watching the television pictures of the clean up operations I became quite angry, being a retired Clerk of Works, when I saw those engaged in the clean-up operation were compelled to use the old fashioned mops to carry out clearance of such large volumes of water in an emergency and in a hospital environment to boot.

This method when played back on screen again will show how widespread the water was because of the mop movement. Indeed one has to ask how such an outdated method of operation as allowed to continue.

Surely both the management personnel responsible and/or any contractors which may have been on the project, would be well aware that the most efficient and hygienic method of clearing such volume of liquids is by using a suction system?

There are many versions of this system available in this country which could have been on site within hours, if requested.
