We know more about Syria’s woes than ours

I have read the proposed ‘Protection of Life’ bill.

We know more about Syria’s woes than ours

It is a sad fact that many Irish people are more informed about the serious matters in Egypt and Syria, for example, than they are about a flawed document that targets innocent, unborn children.

Any reasonable person should be on high alert when our Taoiseach abuses his position, and nullifies the freedom of conscience of the members of his own party.

Even those members of Fine Gael who are for the proposed legislation, should, on principle, have united against the undemocratic, tyrannical actions of their ‘leader’, Enda Kenny.

The fact that such a sizeable majority of the party did not object to the disregard for their right to freedom of conscience, must, I believe, lead any logical, pro-democratic citizen to disregard Fine Gael when voting in the future.

There are some fanatics in all belief systems.

However, the belief that the targeting of an innocent, unborn human being is wrong is shared by members of all faiths and none — the pro-life movement has atheists among its members.

It is, primarily, a human rights issue.

In the 1700s, Voltaire, the famous French writer and philosopher, who was also anti-Catholic, when speaking to someone with whom he disagreed, famously said: “I hate every word you say, but I would gladly die for your right to say it.”

Take away the right of liberty of opinion and freedom of speech, and the basis of democracy is gone.

Shame on Enda Kenny.
