Katie stays amateur - Answering a higher call

Our world, despite all of our sincere protestations,admires material achievement like no other.

Very few of us feel our lives might not be improved if we were just a little better off. Today, sadly, that is too true for too many people struggling to make ends meet.

So, when a public figure turns their back on an opportunity to make millions to represent our country, we should take notice, celebrate and consider the high ideals behind such a sacrifice.

Katie Taylor’s decision not to fight professionally shows that there are indeed higher objectives than those recorded by a bank balance. Already this year, she has inspired us all and now it’s our turn, through the Sports Council and sponsorship, to ensure that she can continue to be such an exemplary force in Irish life.
