Railway Union see off Ards to stay unbeaten

Tense and thrilling in equal measures Round 4 of the EY Hockey League left few wanting as Railway Union tightened their grasp on the Women’s EYHL, while Three Rock Rovers, Pembroke Wanderers and Avoca maintained unbeaten records in the Men’s competition.
In the Women’s EYHL, Railway Union continued their unbeaten run as they beat a high-flying Ards side in Park Avenue. Pembroke Wanderers secured a hard-fought 1-0 win away to Pegasus to climb to second and remain unbeaten. Queen’s University put four past Monkstown to grab their second win of the season.
Old Alex left Loreto Beaufort with two points following a bonus point draw with Loreto which saw the home side score from the final play of the game to salvage a draw. And a duo of penalty corners helped UCD get their first win of the campaign away to Portadown.
In the Men’s EYHL, Avoca came from two goals behind to snatch a last-gasp draw at home to Pembroke Wanderers courtesy of a Hayden Jones deflection, but the visitors got a potentially crucial bonus point that helped them climb to third.
Three Rock Rovers eased past Portrane at Grange Road to climb to second, scoring eight unanswered goals to delight their home support. Corinthian left Farmer’s Cross with three points and a clean sheet as they beat Cork Harlequins. And YMCA scored late in a tense tie with Dublin rivals Monkstown to eek out a 1-0 win and get their first win of the season.
