Reduce numbers of TDs, senators, but not welfare
Our Government is obliged by the conditions laid down by the troika to find ways to start a gradual payback of the debt we owe. This is when out government’s approach to this task is more suitable for a pantomime than for business. We all enjoyed the conditions that created this enormous debt and pay back is now overdue.
Our inconsiderate government decided that their first action would be to cut the size of the social welfare payout to comply with the troika’s demands.
Whilst I agree that the size of some benefits seem to be over-generous so, too, are the salaries and expenses being paid to our bureaucrats. Our government should have reduced the number of bureaucrats, inclusive of TDs and senators, and the salaries and increments of the rest of them. As we are failing to generate enough money to pay the country’s daily needs and are having to borrow, we require careful housekeeping and cutbacks will be the order of the day for some time to come.
This is when half a loaf is better than no bread. Cutbacks have to commence at the top and this is what voters should insist.
