IMF’s latest report - The choice is ours alone
Either we better match our social welfare payments with real need, broaden our tax base rather than increase rates, and reform the health and education sectors to save money or stop moaning about the disastrous cost of our international debt.
Though not directly connected IMF/ECB support cannot be considered without reflection on how our welfare and pay rates compare with those that prevail in other EU member states.
This is, after all, the very first comparison a German or Dutch voter will make if they are asked to continue supporting us.
It seems we might be fobbed off with the excuse that child benefits cannot be means tested but the IMF may not be. Surely we’re not surprised at that? In reality we should welcome it.
