No time to treat Irishflag with disrespect
I sincerely wish the very best of luck to the national team in a very difficult game on Monday: again like everyone, I’m proud of them — win, lose or draw.
And I have little doubt Irish supporters will, once again, be wonderful ambassadors for Ireland at the matchnext week.
Unfortunately, I also have little doubt that some of these supporters will, once again, be insulting our national flag by defacing it with printed or written slogans, and then draping it from the stands in the stadium where our national team are playing, as they have done in the past, for all the world to read.
I find this particular behaviour insulting to the flag, personally distressing, and a source of shame to the nation.
I have little doubt that the Football Association of Ireland is aware of the above advice on the proper treatment of the national flag, and am also distressed that nothing appears to have been done about it by the FAI.
