Polish democracy

In the Irish Examiner (Jun 2) you included a guide to the Euro 2012 competition in Poland and Ukraine.

In this publication your journalist mentions … “Poland is now a parliamentary republic with a president, currently Bronislaw Komorawski, a prime minister, who he gets to choose and order about.”

I take great exception to the suggestion that the Polish prime minister is in any way “chosen” by the president or that he is “ordered about” by him.

Poland is a modern, European, transparent democracy with a rock-solid constitution and a vibrant economy.

To suggest otherwise is to play up to old-fashioned stereotypes that depict Central and Eastern European nations as thinly-veiled dictatorships run by power-crazy maniacs.

I hope that the Polish diaspora in Ireland have not been too offended.
