Rugby flight undermines case

Fergus Finlay makes a compelling argument for a Yes vote in the Fiscal Treaty referendum.

Rugby flight undermines case

Tempting as it is, giving two fingers to Europe right now might not be the wisest of moves, especially as our treatment by our “friends” would hardly inspire faith in the kindness of passing strangers.

However, Mr Finlay displays tone-deafness when he prefaces his case with a folksy story about buying tickets (and flights) to the Heineken Cup Final. As a better-off member of society, he is perfectly entitled to do whatever he wishes with his money. Highlighting the fact that he can afford such luxuries does undermine somewhat the authority of his position when he says that austerity won't go away and “there is every reason to believe it will get worse unless all of us in Europe find a better way to work together”.
