No list system please

Myles Duffy is right when he decries the fact that a number of MEPs elected in 2009 have retired and been replaced automatically by others chosen from a replacement list (Letters, Feb 2).

Yet many people are proposing to replace our multi-seat, proportional representation system with just such a list system.

Our present problems derive from the unaccountability of our most powerful citizens. If we allow the list system to replace the present electoral system the people in power will become even more unaccountable.
