Paying the price for government failures

AS we move forward into 2012, the endless struggle continues for most Irish families.

Paying the price for government failures

Long gone are the days of Enda and Co, calling for the bondholders to be burned and claiming that the banks won’t get another red cent should Fine Gael get into power, and I, like lots of others, fell for this.

Instead, the Government’s capitulation to the European partners insuring that we all dance to their tune, while our wages and public services diminish by the day. The Government’s failure to tell Europe that enough is enough is mind-blowing. Imposing a property tax, among others, and announcing that it is only €2 per week per household is nothing short of ignorance. This is €2 on top of all the other extra costs imposed on innocent pawns, who are being forced to pay for the recklessness of the greedy few.

The pedantic actions of these ministers, intoxicated on power and ignorant to the plight of our citizens, is leading to instability among taxpayers and the unemployed alike who are already paying above the odds for everything while businesses are closing down by the day.

Our frontline public servants are over-run with work while their budgets are being cut to the core, while the upper-end civil servants get paid massive wages and bonuses while hiding in the shadow of the Croke Park deal.

Adding a raft of extra taxes and charges to an already overburdened people will inevitably lead to civil unrest and will cause more problems than it will solve.

The accumulated cost of the last budget on food, fuel insurance etc, has already increased the annual cost to every household, but now people must take a stand and say that enough pain has been imposed.

The Taoiseach’s lack of respect for the problems facing every citizen of this state, will echo in the halls of power for an eternity. Should he continue on this path, perhaps a tax on suitcases would pay off as we will all need one!
