Legal profession fiasco

THE eight AGs spooked the (highly) sophisticated Irish electorate into keeping the legal profession rolling in money.

Could we now expect their convenor, Mr McDowell, to explain why former AGs uniquely get paid for life from the day they cease that job.

As this cannot be a pension it must be a special form of social welfare (not means-tested obviously) to reward them and their dependents for less than three years’ work on average. It is also paid even if further state office is taken up. But of course there is always that invisible constitutional provision called “Reasonable Expectation” to protect them (created by the legal profession and Supreme Court).
