Difficult to have faith in our legal system

DANIEL O’Connell is reputed to have said that there is nothing as ignorant as an ignorant Irishman.

How right he was. McDowell and his cohorts must be chortling over their Armagnac and Habanas as they toast their success. The poor subservient Irish who were unable to reason for themselves were scared by the “wigs” and now we are faced with more 30-year tribunals which will achieve nothing except to fill the coffers of these overpaid leeches.

Meanwhile, the working-class child who steals a shirt in Dunnes Stores will have a criminal conviction for life and people will be given jail for unpaid TV licences.

Fair play to Kenny, Howlin and Shatter, but god love them, they were out of power too long to realise where the real power lies. Other than gardaí who are at the “coalface” it’s difficult to have any faith or trust in the legal system.

God save Ireland.
