We must stamp out abuse in care homes
I didn’t expect the Minister of State for disabilities, Kathleen Lynch, to act so quickly (within a week) and promise that such inspections will now be carried out.
I wonder if Prime Time had anything to do with it?
A nation is judged on its ability to care for the vulnerable in our midst.
Seems to me this nation has lost its way, or rather should I say, those who aspire to run our nation have lost the plot.
There are many very good and hardworking people caring for the vulnerable, in homes and hospitals day after day, night after night on very low pay and in sometimes appalling conditions.
Many are intelligent people, who need to be given a voice.
They must be brought into the decision making process, properly employed, and those who lack training should be given that training.
Managers should not be drawn from a political nod and a wink or the amount of scrambled egg they wear on their shoulder.
Smaller community-based buildings staffed by local people, and families of clientele/customers would help to reduce tension, stress and provide a better caring climate overall.
