Scrap the super-quangos

TWO new regional assemblies were foisted on us in 1999. The one for the Border Midlands and Western region has 29 members.
Scrap the super-quangos

The other for the Southern and Eastern region has 41 members. Those members are not elected directly by the people. They are nominated by local authorities.

Does anyone know what these artificial entities actually do? Their irrelevance makes a laughing stock of our political system. If 70 members are sufficient for these two talk-shops, then surely 70 TDs are enough in any Dáil? Ireland cannot afford these two super-quangos. Let’s abolish them. The Dáil could then run this small country quite well without them. Let’s show Europe how we can make real savings.
