Many voices must have say in abortion deabte

I AM disappointed that Senator Joe O’Toole whom I usually have great regard for has adopted such a high-handed approach in relation to the abortion judgment expressed by the European court of human rights. (December 18).

It is the people of Ireland and not the legislators who determine what the law of the land is. In order to make an informed decision on this grave matter they need to hear full information from people of medical, legal and ethical backgrounds.

The voice of church personnel, philosophers, or people of other faiths is to be welcomed in arriving at a correct assessment of this ruling. A little bit of humility on O’Toole’s part would convince him that he does not have all the answers and he should welcome contributions from every section of society.
