Cromwell’s call echoes down the centuries

OLIVER Cromwell was no friend of this country, to say the least.

However, his advice to the Rump Parliament in 1653 would surely be applauded by the Irish people if he were in the position to repeat it in Leinster House today:

“You have sat too long for any good you have been doing lately. Depart, I say, and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!”
