Vaccine scaremongers should show their hand

THE group calling itself Mother Alliance Ireland (Letters, September 21) again calls for further “debate” and accuses others of trying to silence them as a result of their scare tactics against the cervical cancer vaccine.

Vaccine scaremongers should show their hand

It is they who are trying to silence people with their unscientific rantings which are clearly driven by an undeclared agenda.

They have no right to try to deny people’s right to choose. Our rights of choice are based on the detailed and careful scientific “debate” over a number of years which has validated the vaccine on a benefits/risks basis just like any other medication.

If this group really believes that a few adverse reactions are a basis to ban a medication, then let them propose debating a ban on all such medications with reactions including, presumably, basic painkillers.

If, however, their basis for wanting to take away our rights on just this one vaccine is because of their religious beliefs, then then should be honest enough to say so.

Why are extremists like these being allowed to repeat the tactics of the MMR vaccine scare which led to children dying due to reduced uptake and the doctor behind it being prosecuted and struck off?
