Service failure

I WAS disturbed to read that parts of Cobh in Co Cork are to be without a water supply until next year because of high levels of lead (Irish Examiner, July 29).

This is due to money not being available to carry out remedial work and, as a result, standpipes are to be provided.

Ireland is supposed to be a ‘developed’ country. Obviously, in view of this announcement, nothing could be further from the truth.

The banks are being pumped with obscene amounts of taxpayers’ cash and yet those same taxpayers cannot avail of one of the basic essentials of life and health — a safe drinking water supply. What a laughing stock the politicians are making of this country. One thing is for sure — this situation would not be allowed in Dublin 4.
