L-drivers are twice as likely to cause a crash

HAVING read Nick Foley’s letter (‘Qualified drivers the real road villains’, May 12), I wish to point out that there are more than 2.5m cars on Irish roads, which means there are more than 2.5m drivers in Ireland.

There are roughly 250,000 learner drivers on the roads. In view of the numbers Mr Folley quoted (20% of accidents caused by L-drivers), this means a learner driver is twice as likely to crash as the rest of us.
