THE impending decision to relocate acute hospital services from South Tipperary General Hospital in Clonmel to other centres in the south-east is being dressed up in fancy clothes and is called “reconfiguration”.

No matter what it is called, it’s still essentially the Hanly report which, in spite of denials from the Minister for Health, is still very much Government policy.

It’s “Hanlyish” because Hanly was at pains to point out that its recommendations couldn’t be cherry-picked, that its success was contingent on the implementation of the totality of the report.
