Cop-out mentality not confined to GAA

THE recent uproar by GAA managers over apparent “trial by media” is another example of how people in this country eschew responsibility for their own actions or the actions of those who are supposedly under their control.

Be it our political leaders blaming “outside” influences for our continuing financial problems or individuals moaning about banking malpractice that has them in debt, we seem to have become experts at finding scapegoats for problems that were, in essence, of our own making.

If GAA managers practised what they preach and ensured their players did their utmost to uphold discipline, they should have no problem worrying about trial by media.
